What's in a name
Being proud of where you come from and where you are is very important to our company. As such, our name was derived from a small hiking destination in our owner's home state of Ohio.
Rooty Hollow is located in the beautiful Hocking Hill State Park in southeast Ohio, near the town of Logan. It is a place of inspiration and solitude for many, but don't tell anyone since technically you are not supposed to hike off the "supervised" trails.
Like much of the Appalachian region, the Hocking Hills are filled with small hollows, U-shaped depressions caved out by small river tributaries and creeks. Generally speaking, hollows are the cousins to gorges, like the New River Gorge in West Virginia, or even the grand daddy of them all, the Grand Canyon. Though most hollows will never reach the scale of their larger cousins, barring a radical shift in the flow of our major rivers, they still offer an unique geological and geographical environment.
Rooty Hollow and the Hocking State Forest are home to the southernmost Hemlock grove in continental North America. Along with many other unique features, it is also home to a great getaway for families and friends in the region - if nothing else, providing a chance to get out of the hot Midwest sun in the summer.
If you make it to our fair state, then make sure to swing through the Logan region and put in a few miles in the Hocking State forest!
